Sensory “Go By Feel” Room

Coming in 2024

The purpose of the “go by feel” room is to raise awareness and connection with the world through senses other than eyes, which are so heavily stimulated by screens in this age. With a ‘Weather Chart’ at the door, children are invited to become aware of how their ‘inner weather’ is as they enter (stormy, calm, sunny, dull etc) and also likewise, as they leave, noticing how their feelings have changed after not using their eyes. Blindfolds are by the door for sighted children and socks come off!

This will be a room full of sensory surprises to explore and puzzles to solve, teaching children to use all of their senses and to embrace whatever they meet in life, free of fear (it is mainly the eyes and their potency in making us feel separate from all other things and people, which create fear and anxiety). When we are dropped into our sense of feel and hearing, the mind slows down with it’s constant thought processes which keep us trapped in the past and future creating fear and anxiety.

The room will include an abundance of tactile materials, ‘Feely and Smelly boxes’, sonic experiences and games, and sensory materials for barefoot walking. A much richer experience is available if we pass through this world with less emphasis on vision.
