Random Acts of Kindness

Why not challenge yourself or someone you know to perform a random act of Kindness? Our world needs more of it. It can make someone’s day, week or year; there are so many people surviving day to day with worries, people who are lonely, people who are bereaved. You just never know how much at a low ebb someone is (we are all so conditioned to cover it up in this country for fear of being seen to be weak!) It is not embarrassing to be seen to be kind. Can you go Just Beyond yourself?

Would you like to go beyond your usual conditioned limitations in your mind and take our kindness challenge?

There are no certificates when you complete this challenge! This is not a skill we have added to ourselves; it is rather that we have subtracted the conditioning and life experience which made us feel separate and therefore less kind and less helpful!

What we are doing here is uncovering the True Nature of our Being. You will notice that all young children are so kind and helpful because they have not yet forgotten that they are all really share their Human-Being-ness. They are not yet conditioned to think that we are 8 billion separate Beings all fighting against one another to survive, to climb higher than the other in this world and to extract as much as is possible out of the planet! We just have to re-learn, remember how to be kind, and that it is really just our innate shared nature (even if in many human Beings it is well covered up).

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Smile at people and say hello as they walk passed you in the street. Notice how you feel and what is happening in the bigger picture…

  • Randomly call someone unannounced either or the phone or call by their house (this did used to be considered normal!)

  • Place your loose change in charity boxes on shop counters. You do this and model to the next generation to be kinder towards one another.

  • Hold a door open for someone in a public place…notice their gratitude. What do you think they will do now when they get to the next set of doors?

  • Let a car pull out in front of you at a junction, or maybe even two cars? Watch what happens thereafter for you!

  • If there is time left on a parking ticket, why not look for someone to give it to before you leave rather than just throwing it in the bin?

  • Buy a bouquet of flowers and hand it to a stranger in the street…go on, be brave, why exactly are you scared to be seen as kind? Why would you be embarrassed?
