Composition and Improvisation

A weekly course open to current musicians aged between 8-adult (not necessarily taught in Sound’s Creative Music School but must hold a working knowledge of Grade 5 theory most specifically: keys, relative keys, chords and cadences). We will learn methods to compose melodies, writing chord progressions as well as how this organically grows into the process of improvisation. This is a mainly practical course supplemented with some post Grade 5 theory.

Sonic Postcards

Record natural sound samples outdoors ‘in the field’ with a view to creating ‘sonic postcards’ which are representative of a particular local environment special to you. Combine these sound samples to create a sound file on Audacity which will later be interwoven with additional instrumental recording in an overall combinative composition of audio natural field recordings and musical composition.

I have scaled down the traditional form of Sound’s Creative Music School to make way for the broader Awakened Learning Space activities and am not currently taking on any more students in addition to those already in the school. Please email info@awakenedlearning.space if you are interested in you would like your child to go on the waiting list in case a space becomes available.

Lessons are available only for children aged 5-18.

Lessons are offered on an 8-week trial basis to begin with. This 8 week trial is priced as follows:

• 8 x 1/2 hour lessons £184 (from age 5-approx age 10)
• 8 x 1 hour lessons £360 (from approx age 10+)

Should we be in agreement that your child has shown suitable enthusiasm and willingness to practise between lessons and your child wishes to continue beyond the 8 week trial, lessons are priced as follows:

• Monthly payment for 1/2 hr lessons £77
• Monthly payment for 1 hour lessons £150

These prices are inclusive of 12 weeks holiday per year
